STATEMENT ON THE CONFLICT IN THE GAZA STRIP

STATEMENT REGARDING THE CONFLICT IN THE GAZA STRIP AND ITS IMPACT ON HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

(January 8th, 2025)  The conflict in the Gaza Strip and surrounding region continues to worsen, with a massive humanitarian crisis, and thousands of people killed and injured.

The Irish College of GPs, which represents over 4,000 GPs in Ireland, condemns this loss of life, and in particular the destruction of healthcare facilities and the specific targeting of healthcare professionals in the conflict.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities must be ensured safety in delivering care and comfort to the thousands of injured people who face a daily struggle to survive in deteriorating conditions.

We fully support the stance of the United Nations, who have described humanitarian efforts in Gaza as being at breaking point. This is unacceptable.

We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in the region and call on all sides to to seek a peaceful solution, to end violence in the region and ensure essential and urgent humanitarian aid is delivered.
